This story was to cover the 2\/6 town budget hearing and included a petitioned warrant article presented to the select board the night before. I\u2019m sure I\u2019m not the only person who saw this and thought, \u201cHere we go again.\u201d In the Monitor E-edition, you\u2019ll see a few minor corrections made to this story, 2\/8 at 5:34 p.m. More significant corrections are in order. Referring to the two lots as \u201c\u2026along the 200 acre pond,\u201d\u201c\u2026along pristine Walker Pond\u201d is just untrue. The lots are at least 200 yards back from the pond, no view through the woods. Shore-front lots auctioned by the water precinct were $1,385\/acre on the Boscawen side and averaged $4,166\/acre on the Webster side.<\/p>\n
During the budget hearing, I noted the controversial property was overvalued. Gordon Welch was quoted in the story as saying, \u201c\u2026I\u2019m going to be here that day [town meeting] \u2026 I\u2019m going to be close to the door because someone\u2019s going to get their feelings hurt.\u201d Odd phrasing? Listen to the video, \u201cI\u2019m going to be close to the door because someone\u2019s going to get hurt.\u201d (Serious words in these times.) The moderator broke in: \u201cNobody\u2019s going to get hurt.\u201d Then Mr. Welch claimed he meant \u201churt feelings.\u201d I turned to Chief Adams and he assured me he\u2019d be there.
