The committee considering the future of the clubhouse at Beaver Meadow Golf Course will move at a slower pace while considering a wider slate of plans that includes possible renovations.<\/p>\n

The city hit the brakes on a proposal to spend\u00a0$10.3\u00a0million to build a new clubhouse after vocal public demand\u00a0at the end of last year. Multiple residents criticized\u00a0the\u00a0scope of the plan, a rebuild tripling\u00a0the size of the existing one, and\u00a0its price tag. Others expressed\u00a0concern that it had been developed without sufficient public input.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Wednesday the Beaver Meadow Golf Course Building Committee met for the first time since the clubhouse proposal was sent back from the City Council.<\/p>\n

Mayor Byron Champlin said he wants the committee to explore\u00a0plans and costs of more options for clubhouse improvements, including renovation, renovation\u00a0with an addition and a scaled-back rebuild.<\/p>\n

He also wants the committee to look into adding a public fundraising target. He cautioned that the fundraising goals of other recent city projects have not been met.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to be realistic about what we expect a citizen fundraising committee to raise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

How long the committee will spend developing a new recommendation is currently unclear.\u00a0It typically holds monthly meetings at 8 a.m.\u00a0at the golf course.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0intention\u00a0is to move \u201cmore slowly,\u201d but a set timeline has not been laid out, according to committee member and Ward 3 City Councilor Jennifer Kretovic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just moved too fast,\u201d Kretovic said Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Members of the public criticized the committee for forwarding\u00a0only one option for the clubhouse, a complete rebuild that became twice as expensive as originally estimated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Resident Charlie Russell asked Concord to ask its architects to follow the same process they laid out in Bow for the town community center \u2013\u00a0one proposal was to renovate the existing structure, a second more expensive proposal included renovation and an addition, while the most expensive option included constructing an entirely new building.<\/p>\n

The committee recognizes\u00a0the importance of the public\u00a0being at the table as these discussions\u00a0continue, according to Kretovic.<\/p>\n
