I attended the vigil for Nex Benedict on Sunday evening. Nex was a trans person who died after a bullying incident. There were 100+ people in front of the State House to honor Nex and commit to education about trans rights and resistance to hate in that State House and this aching nation. The testimonies and witness of a couple of parents and numerous others was deeply moving, empowering and inspiring as each speaker was seen and embraced. Each speaker could not thank the crowd enough for simply showing up. Each urged us to be a witness and act to reverse the hatred spewing out in legislation from that State House.

I expected to see this positive, proactive gathering to be featured on the front page in at least a picture if not some in-depth coverage. I am appalled that there was not even a mention of the vigil. Shame on you. People are threatened and dying because of who they are, but I guess not worthy of your coverage. Where were you Concord Monitor?
