A fight that broke out in the stands in the second half of a boys basketball game Friday night at Concord High School required a police response and forced the cancelation of the remainder of the game.

The incident occurred in the second half of Concord High’s game against Portsmouth. It appeared to involve Concord High students.

Concord High principal Tim Herbert reached out to the school community early Saturday.

“This incident was a targeted incident, the general fan in attendance was not in danger. Concord Police, Concord High School staff, and fans were able to break up the altercation. The administrative team along with help from fans and staff have identified all parties involved. We are in the process of reaching out to their families.

Herbert said school staff will take all necessary measures to make sure school events are safe.

“This incident is not a reflection of the Crimson Tide Community, it is the dangerous behavior of a few, and it will not be tolerated,” he said. “These unfortunate actions disrupt the culture and climate we strive to provide our community. I apologize to the students, families, and community members who had to witness this event.”
